Daniel Kitson has been on a bit
of a sabbatical - well, that's what his agent says. Daniel hasn't been
on stage for four months. He hasn't thought of any jokes for a while
either and now, in an attempt to preserve the fun, he is going to do a
few gigs in rooms he loves and - crucially - rooms he hopes he can
fill with people he might like.
A unique mixture of yearning pedantry, whimsical opinion,
joyous swearing, childish giggling and clumsy shuffling, his comedy
desperately wants to be art. Daniel is doing all he can to help, while
trying to hide from audiences, critics and any sort of tangible
success.
Interested more than anything in building up a body of work, Daniel is
constantly battling to balance integrity with a genuine love of shiny
silver gadgets. When he isn't playing UK shows or collecting such
trinkets, he goes and does other stuff in Australia, New Zealand,
Singapore and Hull.
Wilfully untrendy, with just a hint of the reactionary about him,
Daniel Kitson presents a persona which is bewildered and angered by
the realities of our harsh world, but is just too damn socially inept
to do anything about it.
However, let any heckler try and crush this apparent shrinking violet
and out can come the most delicious of man-traps. Conversely, Kitson
is also prince of the profanity - he can heap a pile of venomous
putdowns upon any unwary heckler. In this mode, he's a pitbull
disguised as a fluffy push-along doggy.
