Karl Spain burst onto the scene
in 2000 winning the RTE Award for Best New Act - and the next
day he travelled to Wolverhampton to finish his 3rd level course in TV
Production.
Upon his return, this Limerick born
comics' career took off with his selection as a finalist in the BBC
New Comedy Awards in 2002.
In 2003 he was invited to the most
prestigious comedy festival in the world - The Montreal 'Just for
Laughs' Festival - where he was also interviewed by
Ed Byrne
for his RTÉ TWO series of the same name.
The following year he performed at
festivals around the world including Australia, Kilkenny and he made
his solo debut at the Edinburgh festival with 'Spain, Ireland and
Beyond' to wide acclaim.
He has previously appeared on RTÉ
ONE's Xit File where he wrote and performed the Fitzie character.
Other TV credits include The Late Late Show & The Liffey
Laugh for RTÉ as well. And also if you look closely at the
audience the time his brother Gary was on Where in the World‚ you can
see Karl, he has a beard and is smiling.
As well as his other awards Karl was
also a league winner with Summerville Rovers Under-10s. plus he won a
couple of 'buachaill na seachtaine's' in primary school including two
in third class.
